Inspiration

Inspiration;

Great bonsai, it seems, are not made by skill, talent or technique alone - or even all together. As with arts such as painting, sculpture or music, the bonsai art is beholden to our inspiration.
Here are a few cliches: the wind beneath my wings, the wind in your sails, the winds of change, a breath of fresh air,the breath of inspiration. All of these reference an interesting relationship that is characterized by the definition of the word, inspiration.

From The Dictionary:
Inspiration: 1. a. Stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level.
b. The condition of being so stimulated.
2. One that inspires.
3. Something that is inspired.
4. Inhalation.

This ideal is not unique to the English language. It is an almost universal concept that we must somehow breathe in the essential spark for meaningful creation, especially artistic creation.
If you commonly encounter bonsai design conundrums that prove too difficult for you, if you have trouble looking at raw material and seeing the finished bonsai, or if you simply cannot push beyond a certain level of bonsai styling ability, perhaps you need the breath of artistic inspiration.

This inspiration might not be found in bonsai books. Nor in yet another addition to your bonsai library, or even in a workshop with a skilled and talented artist. Perhaps what you need is a walk in the park, a hike in the hills or a trip to a distant geographic location. In any case, inspiration is most likely to be found not in a well lit library or even at your local bonsai club meeting hall, but out in nature, in the wilds - out in the fresh air.

IBC thread Displays

"I'd imagine the first person who put a accent plant
next to a tree got ripped to bits, likewise once that was accepted and a scroll
went up the result would have been the same.I think the barb wire was fantastic
as a concept, the scroll? blue tits scream spring to me,maybe a robin? Bloody
flat earther's mate, stick to your gun's next time someone like that is'nt worth
having in your society. "

Hi Guys 'n gals
A enlightened view I think,
Rob Kempinski says
"If a bonsai display caused a rift I'd say there are other issues at work in your club. Good luck. Talking about anti-traditional, last year when I organized the Bonsai Society of Florida display, I routed the viewers through the display such that as they progressed further into the display the display got progressively less traditional. It started with basic tokonoma display and evolved to a futuristic display that had a root over meteroite bonsai suspended in mid-air in a room blacked out with black plastic on the walls and ceiling, a fog generator providing a misty haze, and a disco light projector synchronized to rotate multicolored lights onto the black plastic in time with Taiko drum music playing in the background (Think "2001 A Space Odyssey"). Most people didn't get it but a few did - and the reaction was worth it. BTW, the tree has lots of potential but could use more ramification. The stand could be a bit wider. As for other trinkets that get displayed with a bonsai, I wouldn't get too excited about them. You were trying to set a mood. Imagine that person's reaction if you had placed a used condomn there."
